Kay was referred to us by the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society. She immigrated to Canada from the Philippines in October of 2010. Kay has worked in retail for much of her time in Canada and with CML's help decided to obtain a qualification that will allow her to work in a job other than retail. She completed a short office assistant certificate and was accepted into the Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program at Camosun College. The Certificate took 11 months to complete and gives Kay the knowledge to work in administration in a medical office environment and allow her to apply for jobs in doctors’ and other medical professionals’ offices. In such a job, Kay will be able to earn at least 50% more than what she earned in retail. Kay has a received student loan, but it will not cover both her tuition and her living expenses during the study period. Kay has been approved for a loan of $5183.85 to pay for tuition.
Kay’s credit file indicates that she has balance outstanding for a previous student loan and a relatively good payment history.
The loan will provide Kay with the potential to earn more and improve her quality of life.
